The best sample packs for Ableton are the ones you will actually load: for most people that means starting with the packs Live already gives you (Chop and Swing, Golden Era Hip-Hop Drums, Trap Drums), adding two or three good free packs, and paying only for the genre you make most. Below are 10 picks, free and paid, compared in one table, with a note on Push 3 for each.

The other eight are from Ableton and other makers, and I checked that each one exists and what it costs at the time of writing (October 2026). What actually matters in an Ableton sample pack
Run any pack, mine included, through this checklist before paying for it.
- A clear royalty-free license. You should be able to release music with it without clearing anything. Read the license page, because “free” and “royalty-free” are not the same thing.
- Key and BPM in the filenames. Live reads tempo from the filename and warps loops on its own. Untagged files cost you time in every session.
- One-shots, not just loops. A loop gives you an idea; one-shots let you build your own Drum Racks.
- MIDI files. With MIDI you can swap the instrument and change notes, so the idea becomes yours.
- Racks and Live Sets. Packs made for Live (the Ableton ones, Vibrations, 64 Pad Lab, 808 From Mars) come with racks and macros already set up. Plain WAV packs work too, you just build the racks yourself.
- Sounds you’d actually use. 300 good samples beat 5,000 average ones. Play the demos first.
Start with what Live already gives you
Before you buy anything, open the Packs section of Live’s browser. A lot of people never install the packs that came with their license.
Chop and Swing comes with Live 12 Intro, Standard and Suite, and with Push 3. It is built for cutting up recordings: 565 audio loops and chords, 24 Drum Racks and over 100 Instrument Racks, mostly in a hip-hop and R&B direction. If you own Intro, this is the best pack you already have.
Golden Era Hip-Hop Drums and Trap Drums come with Live 12 Standard and Suite, and with Push 3. The first is classic breakbeat kits, the second is 20 trap kits that respond to MPE pressure on Push 3. Together they cover most drum needs for beatmakers. Suite owners also get packs like Drum Booth and Lost and Found, which are worth a look before you spend money.
The best free sample packs for Ableton
Vibrations by ModeAudio is a free pack on Ableton’s own site: 224 loops, 207 one-shots, 10 drum kits and 87 MIDI clips, in a downtempo, lo-fi and indie direction with toy instruments and guitar pedals in the mix. It needs Live 10.1 or later (Lite works) and an Ableton account to download. It doesn’t run on Push 3 in standalone mode.
64 Pad Lab by Mad Zach is five Drum Racks laid out for Push’s 64-pad mode, with drums, bass, leads, vocals and FX in every rack and the same mapping across all five so your hands learn it. Free, needs Live 9.1.7 or later. It’s another one Ableton lists as not compatible with Push standalone, so use it with Push connected to a computer.
Music Loops by 99Sounds is over 700 MB of royalty-free drum loops, instrument loops, 200 one-shots, 50 MIDI files and 27 Serum presets. It’s plain WAV, so it works in any Live edition. A good first free pack if you make hip-hop or dance music.
Goldbaby’s free packs are small, carefully recorded drum machine and synth one-shot sets (Tape606, Blofeld Drums, MPC60 vs VolcaBeats and 30 or so more). Many include mappings for Ableton. Check the license terms on the site before a commercial release.
Paid packs worth the money
808 From Mars by Samples From Mars costs $39. It’s 1,500 samples of one instrument, the TR-808, recorded through hardware, with clean and processed versions and 12 kits. The Ableton rack gives you macros for tone, snappy and decay like the real machine. Buy it if you want one 808 you can play and shape rather than 50 random 808 one-shots.
Splice Sounds is a subscription rather than a pack: you spend monthly credits on single sounds from a library of millions, and you keep what you download if you cancel. When I checked, plans started at $12.99 a month on yearly billing; check the current price on their plans page. It makes sense if you need a few sounds across many genres every month, and less sense if you work in one genre.

Titanium – Hip-Hop & Trap Sample Pack
Titanium is our biggest hip-hop pack: over 1,000 samples covering drums, melody loops (lo-fi, flutes, guitars, RnB, dark trap), bass loops, FX and MIDI, with key and BPM in the filenames. The drum loops come with stems, so you can drop the snare you don’t like and keep the groove. It’s $7 right now.
My routine in Live: 16 one-shots into a Drum Rack, one melody loop, a second loop sliced to MIDI with Simpler. Ten minutes and the beat has a skeleton.
Get Titanium Hip-Hop & Trap Sample Pack
FISHLAKE Vol.1 – Tech House Sample Pack & Serum 2 Presets
In tech house the bassline decides everything, and this pack is weighted that way: 170 samples (drum loops, top loops with only hats and percs for layering over your own kick, analog one-shots, vocal chops) plus 50+ Serum presets, mostly basses and stabs. The presets open in Serum 1 and Serum 2. $19.

Sample packs on Ableton Push 3
Push 3 in standalone mode plays WAV samples, loops and MIDI with no computer, but it can’t run third-party plugins. So the sample half of any pack works on the device, and anything that needs Serum or another plugin needs Live on your computer. What I do: design the sound in Serum 2 at the desk, resample it to WAV, then take Push to the couch.
Not every Ableton pack runs standalone either. Chop and Swing, Golden Era Hip-Hop Drums and Trap Drums ship with Push 3. Vibrations and 64 Pad Lab are listed by Ableton as not compatible with Push standalone, so use those with Push in control mode.
- Getting packs onto the unit. A few loose samples go fastest through Ableton Cloud. For a whole pack, connect Push over Wi-Fi or USB-C, open Live’s browser and drag the pack folder into your User Library. It then shows up on the Push display like factory content.
- Chop loops on the pads. Put a melody loop in Simpler’s Slicing mode. 16 slices across the grid feels right for chopping.
- One-shots in 64-pad mode. A whole kit sits under your hands at once. This is where 64 Pad Lab and the Trap Drums kits shine.
- Use the MPE pads on long sounds. Put a pad or texture in Simpler and let per-pad pressure move the filter.
- Move big packs one folder at a time. A lean browser on the small screen means faster choices. Name top-level folders by pack and type, like “Titanium – Drums”, so you can find them on the display.
How I load sample packs into Ableton Live
- Add the pack folder to Places. Drag the unzipped folder into Places in Live’s browser. Every sound becomes searchable without leaving the DAW.
- Set sensible warp defaults. I keep auto-warp on in Preferences (Record/Warp/Launch). Beats mode for drum loops, Complex Pro for melodic material, because plain Complex smears transients.
- Build Drum Racks from one-shots once. Give a new pack 20 minutes, build three or four Drum Racks, save them. Every future session starts faster.
- Use hot-swap to audition. Press Q on a Simpler or Drum Rack pad, then arrow through samples while the beat plays.
- Slice loops you half-like. Right-click a melody loop and choose Slice to New MIDI Track. Rearranging someone else’s melody is how a sample pack turns into your own idea.

What are the best free sample packs for Ableton?
Start with what came with Live: Chop and Swing (Intro and up), plus Golden Era Hip-Hop Drums and Trap Drums (Standard and up). Then add Vibrations and 64 Pad Lab from Ableton’s site, 99Sounds Music Loops and Goldbaby’s free drum machine packs. All of these were free when I checked.
Are these sample packs royalty-free?
Our packs are 100% royalty-free for releases, streams and client work; the only thing you can’t do is resell the samples as they are. Third-party packs have their own licenses, so read each maker’s terms before a commercial release.
Do sample packs work in Ableton Live Intro and Lite?
WAV samples and MIDI files work in every edition, Lite included. Some Ableton-made packs need a specific edition or version (Vibrations needs Live 10.1 or later, for example), and packs with Serum presets need Serum installed, which Intro and Lite can host.
Do sample packs work on Push 3 standalone?
WAV samples, loops and MIDI do. Third-party plugins like Serum don’t run on the device, and some Ableton packs are marked as not compatible with Push standalone. Resample plugin sounds to WAV, or play them with Push connected to Live.
How do I add a sample pack to Ableton’s browser?
Unzip it and drag the folder into Places on the left of Live’s browser. Live indexes it, and everything becomes searchable and hot-swappable. Keep all packs under one parent folder so backups stay simple.
Is Splice worth it for Ableton users?
If you need a handful of new sounds across different genres every month, yes. If you make one genre, one good pack in that genre usually costs less than a few months of subscription.
My honest advice: install the packs Live already gave you, grab two free packs from this list, finish a few tracks, and only then buy a paid pack in the genre you keep coming back to.
