The best Serum 2 presets for most producers are, in order: the 626 factory presets that already come with Serum 2, one big free pack to fill the gaps, and then one paid pack in the genre you actually make. Below are 11 options, free and paid, from Xfer, other sound designers and my own shop, compared in one table with prices checked in October 2026.

Start free: the factory presets and free packs
Serum 2’s own library. Serum 2 ships with 626 factory presets, and most people scroll past them. Don’t. They’re made by good sound designers, they show off the new engines (granular, spectral, multisample), and they’re the best way to learn how a patch is built. Open a factory preset, look at the mod matrix, and you’ll learn more than from most tutorials.
Our 271 free presets (ours). This is the biggest free pack I make: 95 basses, 45 leads, 36 keys, plus 808s, pianos, plucks and atmospheres in 14 folders named the way Serum’s browser shows them. They’re .fxp files, so they load in Serum 2 and in the original Serum. Checkout is $0 with an email, no card.
Our free genre packs (ours). 34 smaller packs, each 12 to 22 presets, for genres like techno, house, trap, hardstyle and afro house, and for single sounds like pads, plucks or bells. These are in Serum 2’s own format, so they need Serum 2. Good for testing whether a genre’s sounds fit before you pay for a bigger pack.
99Sounds Music Loops. A free sample library from 99Sounds with 27 Serum presets inside, plus loops, one-shots and MIDI. Small, but royalty-free and useful if you also want samples.

The best paid Serum 2 preset packs
FILTH Vol. 1 for Serum 2 by Resonance Sound, designed by Level 8. 64 presets, and 40 of them are basses, so this is a bass music pack first: dubstep, trap, drum and bass, garage, bass house. Every patch has macros and mod wheel assigned, and there are 10 MIDI files and 95 WAV samples on top. It needs Serum 2 version 2.0.22 or later. $29.95 on Plugin Boutique when I checked.
Dusk by ModeAudio. 50 Serum 2 presets for ambient, cinematic and downtempo music: 12 pads, 7 granular patches, textures, arps, a few basses and leads, plus 50 MIDI loops. It’s the opposite of a bass pack, slow and spacious, and a good way to hear what the granular engine can do. About €18; the price shows in your local currency.
Serum 2 VIP Vault Classic Synth Edition by Test Press. 100 presets inspired by the Juno-60, for house, pop, techno and R&B. It’s sold through Splice, so you get it with subscription credits rather than a one-off price. Makes sense if you already pay for Splice.

Every preset demo on our product pages is the raw preset, no processing on top, so what you hear is what loads.

How to pick a Serum 2 preset pack
- Genre first, size second. 100 presets in your genre beat 2,000 in five genres you don’t make. Most big bundles get opened once.
- Listen to raw demos. A demo with full drums, mixing and mastering hides a weak preset. Look for packs that play each preset dry.
- Check the format. Serum 2 opens old Serum 1 presets (.fxp), so older packs still work. Presets saved in Serum 2’s own format won’t open in Serum 1, and some need a recent Serum 2 version.
- Look for macros and folders. Presets with named macros are faster to fit into a track. Packs sorted into Bass, Lead and Pad folders show up properly in Serum 2’s category filter.
- Check the license. Royalty-free should mean you can release music with the presets without asking anyone.
- Watch the timing. Preset packs are what goes on sale in November, not Serum itself. My Serum 2 Black Friday deals page tracks that.

What are the best Serum 2 presets?
Start with the 626 factory presets that come with Serum 2, add a big free pack like our 271 free presets, then buy one pack in your genre. FILTH Vol. 1 for bass music and Dusk for ambient are good third-party picks.
What are the best free Serum 2 presets?
The factory library first. After that, our free 271-preset pack and 34 smaller genre packs, and 99Sounds’ free Music Loops library, which includes 27 Serum presets.
Do Serum 1 presets work in Serum 2?
Yes. Serum 2 opens Serum 1 .fxp presets. It doesn’t work the other way: presets saved in Serum 2’s format won’t load in Serum 1.
How many presets do I actually need?
Fewer than you think. A few hundred presets you know well are more useful than thousands you never open. Learn the factory library, keep one or two packs per genre, delete the rest.
Are preset packs royalty-free?
Ours are, and so are most commercial packs, but read each maker’s license. Royalty-free usually means you can release music made with them, not resell the presets themselves.
