House Serum 2 Presets

Every house pack I’ve made for Serum is on this page: 22 packs with 916 presets in total. Eleven are paid (745 presets, $7 to $29) and eleven are free (171 presets). They cover deep house, tech house, afro and organic house, melodic and progressive house, and bass and slap house. Most paid packs are .fxp files, so they load in Serum 2 and in the original Serum; Afro House and the free packs are native Serum 2 presets and need Serum 2. Deep house: warm stabs, round bass, slow filters

Deep house in Serum mostly comes down to three sounds. The chord stab is usually a saw or organ-style wave through a low-pass filter with a short envelope, so the chord opens up for a moment and closes again. The bass is round and simple: a sine or a filtered saw, mono, with the glide set low. The pads move slowly, with an LFO on the cutoff or the wavetable position at a rate of one or two bars. If a stab sounds harsh, pull the cutoff down before you reach for EQ. I wrote up the whole process in how to make deep house in Serum 2, and the organ side in organ sounds in Serum 2. Deep House Vol.2 and Modern Deep House Vol.1 are the two packs built only for this style.

Tech house: rolling bass and short, dry sounds

Tech house puts the bass in front. A typical patch is a short, plucky bass with a fast filter envelope, a bit of drive, and sometimes pitch movement at the start of each note. It sits in the gaps between kicks, so the release has to stay short. Stabs and FX are dry and percussive, without long reverb tails. How to make tech house bass in Serum 2 goes through one of these basses step by step, and the tech house tutorial covers the full track. Fishlake Vol.1 and Vol.2 also include drum loops and one-shots, so they work as a starting kit. Techsonic is presets only.

Afro, organic and melodic house: plucks that leave room for percussion

These styles are built around percussion, so the synths have to stay out of its way. Plucks are short, with soft attacks and a wooden or kalimba-like tone, and they often come from FM or a sine with a fast filter decay. Pads are wide but quiet, and the bass is usually a clean sub with a gentle slide. In melodic and progressive house the sounds get longer: big detuned pads, arps that open with a filter over 16 or 32 bars, and leads with long delays. Start with how to make afro house in Serum 2, melodic house or progressive house. The Melodic House pack also includes an organic drum kit.

Bass house and slap house

Here the bass is the lead. Slap house basses are heavily compressed and mid-focused, often with a pitch envelope on each note so they sound like they’re bouncing. Bass house goes dirtier, with distortion and formant or comb movement. Both need a separate clean sub underneath, or the low end falls apart on small speakers. See bass house and slap house for patch walkthroughs.

How to pick a pack

If you aren’t sure yet, download the free pack for your style first. They’re 13 to 22 presets each and show you how I set up the patches. If you work in more than one house style, Melomagic (137 presets) is the widest pack here. If you only make one style, pick the pack built for it: it’ll have fewer sounds you won’t use. The paid packs work in both Serum versions, while the free ones need Serum 2. For presets in every genre, go to the main Serum 2 presets page.
