SSL Compressor: Easiest way to glue your mix

Common problem: drums are too loud, bass can’t get the level of your kick drum, melody loop is over the snare, for sure that’s a common mixing problems you will hear at 90% of soundcloud tracks/beats, but here is the easiest way to fix your mix problem using only 1 device!

(of course these problems are better to eliminate at the stage of mixing, but if you do not have separate tracks or you are lazy this method is for you)

SSL Compressor, nevermind Waves or UAD or even stock plugin you have in your DAW, the trick works /w any of them.

1) Start from Attack – 30ms is great to make your transients pass through the compressor;

2) Set the lowest value at your Release 

3) Ratio 2 is the perfect for our purposes

So that’s the start point, and then turn your threshold to get 2-3db of compression level.

Check Before/After !

I’m sure you’ll be surprised at the result, the mix will sound fuller and more Glued.

P.S. that’s why this type of compression is called gluing compression or Glue 🙂
